In light of the steady drop in demand for Covid-19, Influenza and RSV PCR testing, Histopath will close their remaining community testing clinics on Friday 28th July.

We would like to take this moment to sincerely thank the many millions of people across Sydney and regional NSW for trusting us through 3 very demanding years. The Covid-19 pandemic was a profound experience for us as an organisation, working hand in hand with local health authorities, city councils and countless other service providers. The community spirit that we experienced will live with us long into this new post-pandemic era.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did i receive a BILL?
If you had a procedure either in rooms or in as an in-patient at a private hospital, your doctor may take a specimen which is then sent to Histopath for assessment by one of our Pathologists for an additional specialist medical opinion and therefore you may receive a separate account from us.   If you recently completed and returned either a three jar or six jar stool collection kit for faecal testing you will receive an account if you were not eligible to be bulk billed.  For example, you would not be eligible if you were referred by a Naturopath or if you are an overseas patient.  However, if your GP or Specialist referred you for testing and you are the holder of a current Medicare card or Veterans Affairs card, your account will usually be bulk billed.  If your GP requested additional tests, Medicare has a limit on how many tests per day are able to be bulk billed.  If you have exceeded the Medicare limit, you will also receive an account from us.
I AM A HOSPITAL PATIENT. WILL I RECEIVE AN ACCOUNT?
If you belong to one of the Health Funds who provide ‘no-gap’ services for pathology, we will bill your fund directly so that you will not receive an account nor incur any out-of-pocket (gap) expense.   However, if you belong to a Health Fund who does not provide no-gap services for pathology, you will receive an account which you can claim reimbursement from your fund after you have paid your account.  Alternatively, you may lodge your account with your Health Fund directly for payment.  In some circumstances there will be an out-of-pocket expense due.   If you belong to a Health Fund but still within the twelve month waiting period, you will not be eligible to claim.  You will receive an account from us.   If you are uninsured you will be responsible for an out-of-pocket (gap) expense.
I HAD A PROCEDURE IN THE DOCTORS ROOM. WILL I RECEIVE AN ACCOUNT?
Your Health Insurance does not cover in-rooms procedures.  Therefore, you will receive an account.  You will however, be able to claim a Medicare rebate for a portion of the outstanding amount.
HOW MUCH WILL MY OUT-OF-POCKET (GAP) EXPENSE BE?
Your account will include a Medicare rebate amount plus an out-of-pocket amount generally referred to as a ‘gap’.   The difference between the Medicare rebate amount and the account total is variably covered by private insurance (for inpatient procedures only) and therefore an accurate estimate cannot be provided.
